The Tibet question

Sir, — India did recognise the realities of Tibet 50 years ago ("A reality check on Tibet," Aug. 21). Tibet was always an inalienable part of China. The Middle Kingdom proudly called Tibet "syi dzang," the "Western Treasure." It was a grave error on the part of Jawaharlal Nehru to perceive Tibet as an independent region.
