Back Haryana to offer concessions for labourers

THE Haryana Labour Welfare Board has decided to give a slew of incentives and concessions to the labourers and their wards including an increase in the ceiling of monthly salary up to Rs 10,000.

This was decided at a meeting of the board held here under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala. It was also decided that in case of an accident during work, an immediate financial assistance of Rs 5,000 would be provided to the affected labourer by the Assistant Director, Industrial Security and Health.

The financial assistance to the widow or dependants of the deceased labourer will be increased from Rs 3,500 to Rs 10,000. Withdrawing the condition of death certificate, it was decided that a certificate from the employer would be enough.

To support the education of the wards of labourers, it was decided that the board would pay the fees decided by the Government for BCA, MCA and BE courses or a special professional course. Earlier a grant was given by the board. The scholarship scheme will be extended to even those wards of the labourers who join professional courses within the State or outside the State.

In case the ward stands first in the State in the tenth or twelfth examinations conducted by the Haryana School Education Board or Central Board of Secondary Education or in Graduation or Post Graduation from a University, the Welfare Board will bear the expenditure of his or her fee for further education. However, the facility will be admissible only in the case of those labourers who had been in service for the last one year.

Under the `Kanyadaan Yojna' scheme, the condition of period of service will be reduced from 15 years to five. The application for assistance under the scheme can now be submitted up to the date of the marriage of the daughter.

A grant of Rs. 2.5 lakh per Labour Welfare Centre or 75 per cent of the actual expenses, whichever is less, will be given to those NGOs which intended to further strengthen such centres.
