Snapping of illegal connections alleged

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, AUG. 29. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded that the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, ensure the implementation of his promise that unauthorised farm power connections would not be disconnected this season.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, the BJP State leaders, B. Dattatreya, K. Laxman and N. Venugopala Reddy, alleged that despite the Chief Minister's announcement, the officials had removed 800 connections in Ranga Reddy alone and taken similar action in Karimnagar, Warangal and Medak districts.

TDP's demand

At a separate press conference, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader, N. Janardhana Reddy, dubbed as "ridiculous" the claim of the Chief Minister that the TDP was behind the digging of more than two lakh borewells. He demanded the ruling party to implement its pre-poll promise of providing free power to all farmers.
