Back `300 Central projects hit by cost overrun' Our Bureau
New Delhi , Sept. 6 A SECTORAL analysis of 300 Central projects by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has revealed a cost overrun of nearly 25 per cent, mainly due to delays in the execution of the projects. These infrastructural projects in 14 sectors, each costing Rs 100 crore and above, were originally estimated to cost about Rs 2,01,286.19 crore. Owing to the time overruns, however, the estimated cost of the projects rose to Rs 2,24,226.89 crore. Moreover, flash reports conducted in July show that that the current anticipated cost has escalated further to Rs 2,46,793.93 crore, an increase of nearly 25 per cent.
