Back ProEd launches IBM programme for colleges in Karnataka

PROED, a Maintec group company, has launched `Mentor', its IBM Mainframe training programme focussed on engineering college students, in the State.

Through this initiative, ProEd will provide third and final-year engineering students 320 hours of training and education at their college premises, said Mr Naveen V., Managing Director.

The company, which has launched similar programmes in Delhi, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram, said that it has 15-20 colleges participating in each State and would enrol about 1,500 students during the year.

The demand for IBM mainframe specialists is expected to grow from the current 7,200 to 15,400 by next year, Mr Naveen said, quoting industry sources.

The programme's main purpose is to enable engineering graduates to meet this need without companies having to retrain them.

It would also increase their placement chances while reducing the training requirements of companies, Mr Naveen said.
