ANANTAPUR, SEPT. 10. The Inspector General of Police of Rayalaseema zone, R. P. Meena, today released a list of criminal cases pending against eight TDP leaders who had sought security. He sought to know from the people whether such individuals deserve security. Talking to newspersons here today he said the district police was planning to invoke Preventive Detention Act against about 50 persons in the district. The Act would be used based on the criminal background of the persons without any political bias.
Cases against Paritala
He was evasive when asked why the police had given security to many Congress leaders who too had criminal cases pending against them. Later, the police also released a list of criminal cases pending against Penukonda legislator, Paritala Ravindra. Meanwhile, the Anantapur DSP, B. Balanarasimha Reddy, today wrote to the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, stating that he was facing threat to his life from Mr. Ravindra.
Conspiracy alleged
On the other hand, Mr. Ravindra, interacting with select scribes at his residence, alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched to eliminate all the six TDP legislators in the district. The spree of killings was an indication of such a possibility, he reasoned.
