Letters to the Editor
Sir, This refers to the editorial `Callousness unlimited' (Sept. 18). The fact that Thangjam Manorama was shot in her private parts debunks the claim that she was killed while trying to escape. The Assam Rifles' personnel stand exposed for the crimes of rape and homicide. The Army Chief, N.C. Vij's remarks in defence of these men are unfortunate.
A.A.H.K. Ghori,
Sir, While Gen. Vij is entitled to comment on the need for the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act to continue in Manipur, his statement on Manorama much before the ongoing investigation is completed is unwarranted. Coming from man of Gen. Vij's status, such remarks could cast doubts even if the accused are cleared. R. Agastya, Hyderabad
