Back Prices look up at Coonoor sales

A REVIVAL trend in the market was noticed this weekend when an increased volume of 13.9 lakh kg was offered for sale at the auctions conducted by the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) here.

In general, process rose by Rs 2 a kg. The plainer teas gained more than the high priced ones as the dealers vied with one another to step up their stocks for catering to upcountry demand.

On the export front, there was no purchase this week for Kenya. Pakistan was selectively active at Rs 52 a kg, but there were complaints that the volume of their choice teas was inadequate. CIS and Poland were seen picking up select grades for a price up to Rs 45 a kg. Iraq did not buy at all.

"High grown orthodox brokens lost Rs 2 a kg. The smaller brokens gained Rs 4. Clean black CTC brokens were dearer by Rs 5. Other CTC brokens were up by Rs 2. Smaller brokens gained Rs 4. The plainest CTCs were Rs 2 more. Nilgiris dusts were easier by Rs 2. Clean black CTC dusts were dearer by Rs 4. Plainer CTC dusts were up by Rs 3," noted the Market Report of the Joint Brokers.
