HYDERABAD, SEPT. 20. The General Manager's Trophy all-India boxing tournament will be conducted by the South Central Railway Sports Association (SCRSA) at the Railway Recreation Club complex hockey ground from September 22 to 25. At a press conference jointly addressed by SCRSA General Secretary A. Venkat Reddy and Secretary Y. Katoch, President P.C. Kumar said about 125 boxers, representing 12 teams, will be in the fray, among them several Olympians and internationals.
Services not taking part
Prominent by its absence will be Services, which will not take part in view of its own inter-command competitions coming up shortly. Should it rain at the open air stadium, an indoor facility is on standby, with a ring already installed. Competitions will be held in the following categories: light fly, fly, bantam, feather, light weight, light welter, welter, middle weight, light heavy, heavy and super heavy. The four-day meet will be conducted under the auspices of the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation and the performances will be assessed for selection in the Indian team for the Commonwealth Youth Games in Victoria (Australia) from November 29.
