Hyderabad , Sept. 21 THE United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) has proposed four basic principles to ensure growth in harmony with nature. Addressing the inaugural of the three-day Green Business Summit on `Resource sustainability - Closing the materials loop' here on Tuesday, Mr N. Mohanty, Principal Advisor of UNIDO, said the four principles were - move towards closing the material loop within industries; reuse materials and energy to eliminate wastage; changeover from manufacturing goods to providing services; and move from non-renewable to renewable sources of energy. The international conference is being organised by CII-Sohrabji Green Business Centre. Asking the participants to look at the issue of resource sustainability with practical orientation, Mr Mohanty said the UNIDO had been promoting cleaner production methods in a variety of industrial segments for the last 10 years. Mr John Smith-Sreen, Deputy Director of USAID, said concerted efforts from committed industry leaders, environment professionals and other stakeholders to achieve sustained industrial growth and adopting eco-effective practices formed the core business sense. Mr Jamshyd N. Godrej, Chairman of CII-Godrej GBC, asked the industry to adopt environmentally sustainable methods to ensure rapid economic growth without depriving the future generations of natural resources.
