Back V. Krishnamurthy is Chairman of manufacturing panel

THE Government on Wednesday appointed Mr V. Krishnamurthy as Chairman of the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC). He will hold the rank and status of a Union Cabinet Minister, an official statement said here.

NMCC, which is being envisaged as an apex body, will provide inputs for policy ranking as well as suggest measures for enhancing the competitiveness of industry. Included in its role is identification of manufacturing sectors which have potential for global competitiveness, their problems and constraints; evolving sector-specific strategies for enhancing the competitiveness of manufacturing sector; recommending measures to create common infrastructure and facilities such as testing, quality and design; providing forum for dialogue between the public and private sectors and labour.
