BANGALORE, SEPT. 22. Mahesh (22) of Chamarajapet, a hotel employee, died of burns on Tuesday. He was set on fire allegedly by his two sisters-in-law at Valmiki Nagar in Chamarajapet Police Station limits on Tuesday night. The police said Mahesh was staying with his two brothers and was not giving his share of the house expenditure. This reportedly annoyed his brothers' wives, Anjali and Rani. When Mahesh returned home on Tuesday night, one of them allegedly poured kerosene over him and the other set fire to him, the police said. Neighbours took Mahesh to Victoria Hospital where he died. The police have arrested Anjali and Rani.
Bank robbery foiled
Thieves made a futile bid to burgle a branch of Corporation Bank in J.P.Nagar 3rd phase on Tuesday night. The J.P. Nagar police said the burglars gained entry into the bank through a window. They searched the cabins of the manager and the cashier and other departments. They tried to enter the strong room. The watchman of the bank noticed the attempt on Wednesday morning when he opened the bank. K.K. Shenoy, Senior Manager of the bank, has filed a police complaint.
Cell phone snatched
A cell phone worth Rs. 5,000 was snatched from Srikanta, a software engineer, in Koramangala police station limits on Tuesday night. The police said three persons riding a motorcycle accosted Srikanta, who was standing near his house and speaking on his mobile phone. They brandished sharp weapons and took away the mobile phone, the police said.
Arrested
A person, who was running away with a gold chain that he had snatched from a student, was caught by residents in Banashankari Police Station limits on Wednesday. The police gave the name of the accused as Shankar (28) of Muneshwara Nagar. The police said Nivedita (22), a student, was waiting for a bus at Banashankari 3rd Stage bus stop. Shankar, who was riding a bicycle, snatched the gold chain worth Rs. 6,000 from her. Nivedita along with a few bystanders chased and caught him. They later handed him over to the police.
Killed in accident
Robert of Kacharakanahally, a hotel employee, was killed when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a lorry near Vasant Nagar railway bridge in High Grounds Police Station limits on Tuesday night. The police said Robert was returning home from work.
