World Heart Day celebrated

NEW DELHI SEPT. 28. A large number of enthusiastic people celebrated the fifth Cornola World Heart Day in the Walled City area on Sunday. It was organised by the All India Heart Foundation and the Cardiological Society of India.

The Delhi Finance and Urban Development Minister, A.K. Walia, flagged off a symbolic walk to "Veer Bhoomi" and back. The theme of this year's World Heart Day was "Children, Adolescent and Heart Disease".

Niyogi remembered

NEW DELHI SEPT. 28. Apang, an organisation working among the disabled people, observed the 13th death anniversary of Shankar Guha Niyogi at Jantar Mantar here on Tuesday.

Prabhunath Singh, trade union leader from Faridabad who was the chief guest, narrated to the gathering the epic struggle of Niyogi, and "his success in getting the wages of the workers increased from Rs.2.50 per day to Rs.75 per day in just two years".

The president of Apang, T.N. Mishra, recalled how Niyogi launched the anti-liquor movement by organising women workers and succeeded in making male workers quit alcohol.

NCC expedition to Siachen

NEW DELHI SEPT. 28. The National Cadet Corps is conducting a vehicle expedition from Gujarat to Siachen to promote adventure activity among its cadets. This expedition will cover 5, 500 km in about 20 days and will pass through Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi, Chandigarh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The expedition will reach Siachen Glacier base camp in sub-zero temperatures and also pass through the Khardungla Pass, the highest motorable road in the world.

Book fair organised

NEW DELHI SEPT. 28 . To take readers on a voyage of discovery, the Delhi Public School in Rohini organised a three-day Book Fair in collaboration with the Scholastic India Private Limited (SIPL) this past week. The Chairman of DPS Society, Narendra Kumar, and the Managing Director of SIPL, Arvind Kumar, jointly inaugurated the Fair. After lighting the inaugural lamp, the senior school students presented a choir.
