BANGALORE, OCT. 3. A 45-year-old woman, who used to lend gold-plated ornaments for marriages, was blindfolded and robbed of ornaments worth Rs. 30,000 by three women in V.V. Puram in the Central Police Station limits on Sunday. The police said that three Telugu-speaking women approached Mangalagauramma (45) at her house on Market Road. She showed them the ornaments kept in two boxes and told them the charges. Then the strangers asked for a catalogue. Mangalagauramma asked her granddaughter, Latha, to bring it from a nearby place. The strangers then asked for water. When she went in to get water, the strangers ran away with the ornaments, the police said. Of the three strangers, two were clad in sari and one was wearing salwar-kameez, the police said.
House burgled
The house of a businessman was burgled on Saturday in Airport Police Station limits. The police said gold ornaments worth Rs. 40,000 were taken away from the house. The police said Verma, a resident of Murugeshpalya, had locked the house and had proceeded on a pilgrimage along with family members to Tirupati on Saturday morning. He noticed the attempt on Sunday morning when he returned.
Cell phone snatched
Strangers on Saturday night took a mobile phone, two gold rings, and a gold chain, totally worth Rs. 60,000 from D. Vamshi Sai, a trainee engineer, on New Park Road in Indiranagar Police Station limits. The police said four strangers accosted Sai, who was returning home, brandished weapons and robbed him.
Killed in accident
Yusuf (26) of Lakkasandra was killed when the scooter he was riding was hit by a private bus near Hudson Circle on Saturday. The Ulsoorgate Traffic Police have seized the lorry. The driver was reported to be at large, the police said. The City Crime Branch police on Saturday arrested six persons on charges of gambling and recovered from them Rs. 2,320 and a few cards. The police gave the names of the accused as Ravi (29), Jayanna (24), Krishna (34), Shankar (25), Pratap (24) and Siddesh (28).
