MALAYSIA has entered the ITES space in India for the first time by setting up Scicom Contact Centre Service (India) Pvt. Ltd, a contact centre for Nokia. Scicom Contact Centre is a subsidiary of Malaysian BPO services provider, scicom (MSC) Sdn Bhd. It will manage the India Careline for Nokia to provide a comprehensive customer care services.

Announcing the formal launch of the venture on Wednesday, Mr Leo Ariyanayakam, Group Executive Director and CEO of Scicom Group, said the contact centre is an extended platform for Nokia to cater to its multi-lingual customer base in India.

He said the facility in Malaysia with about 1000 seats had the limitation of lingual versatility, as apart from its excellence in English, Tamil was the only language in which the country could provide its services. Mr Ariyanayakam said scicomhad invested about $4 million for this centre, which is located in the International Technology Park at Whitefield. It will initially have 120 seats, which would be scaled up depending upon the demand in future.

He told Business Line that the company would also extend its BPO management services to other verticals.
