My computer has Pentium III processor, with Windows ME edition as OS. The system also has MS Visual Studio 6 where I store my data base. I have stored all my old databases month-wise in C;\program files\Microsoft visual studio\VFP98/OLD DATABASE and have also saved in another drive named D;\RAAJ\....

But now, I am not able to find the entire database along with the folder from the other drive D:\ . How could this have happened? Could it be because of foul play? And if it is a virus problem, could it have affected the other drive — C and the VFP98 folder also? I was also told that my entire OS has been corrupted. Please tell me on how I can save my valuable database.

There could have been a disk crash that could have led to the deletion of the entire disk data. However, if you find other folders which are still as good as they were earlier, then you have reason to think otherwise. Viruses don't do selective deletions; They usually wipe out the entire partition or disk.

Nevertheless, it is a good idea to have a backup of your files (programs, folders and data files), and the best way to do this it to burn it to a CD or have it transferred to a different system on the network.
