Back Reports on anti-piracy measures sought Our Bureau
New Delhi , Oct. 12 THE Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry has asked State Governments to send monthly reports on steps taken to curb piracy. Mr Navin Chawla, I&B Secretary, has written to all the Chief Secretaries asking them to issue directions to the District Magistrates (DMs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) to issue necessary directions. The Union Government is of the view that though several measures have been taken by it to combat piracy, these have not been reflected in a consolidated manner. The industry had suggested that such data would get sufficient prominence and importance if all the DMs and SPs were to include the measures taken by them for anti-piracy as part of the monthly report. This way, all the information relating to anti-piracy would be available at one place and would enable the State as well as the Central Government to review the action taken. The Indian music industry is the fifth largest consumer of music units in the world (181.1 million units) .
