KOZHIKODE: The South Malabar Gramin Bank (SMGB) intends to finance solar home lighting systems in a big way. Stating this while inaugurating a one-day training programme on "financing solar home lighting systems and water heaters" on Wednesday at Hotel Malabar Palace, SMGB Chairman, T. Thomas Mathew, said loans for solar lamps would carry a subsidy of 5 per cent permitted by the Ministry for Non-Conventional Energy. K. M. Uduppa, Managing Trustee, Bharatiya Vikas Trust, co-sponsors of the workshop, R. Narayanan Nair, General Manager, and K. Krishnankutty, SMGB senior manager in Malappuram, also spoke.
