Back Perambalur agro-based projects

MADURAI: Four agro-based industrial projects in Perambalur district under the New Anna Marumalarchi Thittam await clearance from the State-level co-ordination committee.

The projects, worth Rs 1.15 crore, comprise three gur manufacturing units and one cattle-feed production unit.

According to the General Manager of the District Industries Centre, Mr S. Asokan, gur manufacturing is being taken up for the first time in the district due to promotion of contract farming in sugarcane. The units will come up at Jayamkondam, Tirumanur and the Veppur blocks.

The cattle-feed unit will come up in the Veppur block. The gur manufacturers will get between Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,600 per tonne compared to Rs 745 for a tonne of sugarcane, said Mr Asokan.
