Hyderabad , Nov. 2

IN an unusual episode, the Collector of Hyderabad District, made public his displeasure over the absence of the controlling officers of various banks at a meeting to discuss Government-sponsored welfare schemes.

The Collector, Mr Arvind Kumar, termed their absence as a "negligent and casual attitude towards Government-sponsored schemes." He said, "Due to this, the district could not record any progress in the last two years."

Addressing the special meeting at the Collectorate on Tuesday, Mr Kumar pointed out that not even one controlling officer had attended the meeting. He took strong objection when a few bankers informed him that the controlling officers could not attend the meeting since they were "busy and pre-occupied."

Terming it as a lame excuse, the Collector said the laxity of bankers would not be tolerated in future.

An official letter detailing the absence of bankers would be addressed to the Secretary (Finance), Reserve Bank of India, and copies would be sent to the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, District in-charge Minister and public representatives of the district, he said in an official release.
