Back Dumping probe on sodium cyanide initiated

THE Designated Authority in the Commerce Ministry has initiated anti-dumping investigations on imported sodium cyanide from Chinese Taipei.

Sodium cyanide is a pure basic inorganic chemical manufactured by reacting hydro cyanic acid (HCN) with caustic soda and is mainly used by industries such as dye intermediates, electro-plating chemicals and for manufacturing of heat treatment salts.

In response to a written petition filed by Cyanides and Chemicals Company (CCC), Mumbai alleging dumping of sodium cyanide from Australia and Chinese Taipei, the authority held that as it found no export of the subject goods from Australia during the period of investigation, it saw no prima facie evidence of allegation of dumping from that country.

Another domestic producer Gujarat Alkalies & Chemicals Ltd also backs the petition seeking initiation of anti-dumping probe by CCC that produces more than 60 per cent of total domestic production of the subject goods in the country.

The authority said that there is sufficient evidence that normal values of the subject goods in the subject country is significantly higher than the net export prices indicating that the subject goods are being dumped in the Indian market by exporters from the subject country. Hence the initiation of the dumping probe against Chinese Taipei and the period of investigation is April 1, 2003 to March 31, 2004.
