MANGALORE: The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Karnataka Bank Ltd, Mr Anantakrishna, has said that treasury operations cannot be relied upon to fetch income.

He was addressing the regional heads of the bank at the quarterly review of the performance at the head office in Mangalore on Friday.

Increased lending with focus on key areas, besides agriculture, is the major source of income for banks, he said.

"We never fail to plan, but we fail to perform as per plan. Think, act and implement whatever is planned," he said, adding that post-event management should also be properly planned.

Mr P. Jayarama Bhat, General Manager, highlighted the performance of the bank for the first half of the current financial year.

Mr K.H. Shivaswamy Aithal, Deputy General Manager, said the bank is planning to launch Internet banking. Opening of more ATMs and expansion of branches are also on the cards, he added.
