Buses stoned in Humnabad

BIDAR, NOV. 12. Tension prevailed in Humnabad for some time on Wednesday evening when a group of people threw stones on buses and demanded the arrest of a few persons charged with offences under the Prevention of Atrocities Act. No one was injured in the incident.

According to the police, some youth from Humnabad drove away people waiting in the bus stand and damaged at least six buses around 7 p.m. Vehicular traffic was affected on the main road for over an hour and shop owners closed shutters early.

The police had to intervene to bring the situation under control. Prohibitory orders were clamped under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Senior officials, including the Deputy Commissioner, T.K. Anil Kumar, and the Superintendent of Police, Umesh Kumar, visited the spot.

According to eyewitness accounts, an incident of harassment led to the incident. A youth had complained to the police on Monday that a few students of the government college were allegedly harassing his sister, who attended the same college. He also complained that those students had assaulted him when he asked them about it. The students in turn complained that the youth and a few of his friends had "attempted to murder" them.
