BANGALORE, NOV. 19. The Banaswadi police have arrested eight persons and seized from them two country-made pistols, a revolver, and eight live bullets. The police are yet to ascertain the antecedents of the arrested persons and the purpose for which they had procured the arms and ammunition. Preliminary investigation has revealed that a man, who is at large, had brought the weapons from Andhra Pradesh, the police said. The names of the arrested persons were given as Sharathchandra (28), Lavanya Kumar (39), Govardhan Reddy (40), Srinivasa Rao (36), Konda Reddy (45), Mallikarjuna Reddy (34), Kamaraj Reddy (43), and Balarama (43). The arrested are residents of Banaswadi and surrounding areas. On a tip-off, the police arrested Sharathchandra when he was moving "suspiciously" on 9th Main, 2nd Stage, HRBR Layout, on the night of November 16. A revolver and four bullets were in his possession. On information given by him, the police raided the houses of the other accused and arrested them.
Establishments raided
Sleuths of the Fraud Cell of the City Crime Branch (CCB) on Thursday raided three establishments in Peenya and Ashoknagar police station limits and seized 260 fake ink cartridges worth Rs. 4 lakhs. The police arrested the proprietors of the three shops on charges of selling fake cartridges in the name of a leading brand. The names of the arrested were given as Prabhu (20) of Victoria Layout, Ramdas (25) of T.Dasarahalli, and Premji (22) of K.S. Garden. In another case, the CCB officials arrested four persons who were allegedly trying to cheat the public by selling fake tiger pelt. The names of the arrested persons were given as Belliyappa (40), Muthanna (35), and Ravi (40). The Peenya police have registered a case.
