Back EPF role in social security lauded

SPEAKERS at an interactive session on ESI and PF, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry-Kerala, have lauded the role played by the Employees Provident Fund in providing the biggest social security cover for the working class of the country.

Mr R. Subhash, Regional PF Commissioner, Employees Provident Fund Organisation, said that EPF has grown to 183 sectors and three major social security schemes are being covered now, which included employee disposition insurance scheme, pension scheme and provident fund scheme.

Mr Jose Cheriyan, Regional Director, Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) spoke of the changes that the department has seen since 2002.

Dr P.R. Santha, Director, Insurance Medical Services Department of the State Government highlighted the challenges faced by the department.

Already Rs 13 crore worth of medical reimbursement has been taken up by the State Government, which is not shareable by the ESIC.
