Two more officials `quit' CIA

By Sridhar Krishnaswami

Washington: In further evidence of turmoil in the CIA under the leadership of Porter Goss, the chiefs of the Europe and Far East Divisions are said to have put in their papers. The posts are seen as the most sensitive and important in clandestine operations. Two other senior officials quit recently. The general impression is that the resignations are both because of the style of functioning of Mr. Goss and the Congressional aides he brought who have had a history of run-ins with the agency's operations personnel. The paper says much of the anger has focussed on Patrick Murray, a former Congressional aide and currently Mr. Goss' Chief of Staff who is said to have raised the hackles of some station chiefs around the world. Apparently Mr. Goss and Mr. Murray feel that major shake-ups are necessary, including the manner in which the clandestine division operates.
