HEWLETT Packard through its i-Community initiative in Kuppam has brought together about 10,000 people, building awareness about information technology that has been touching their lives over the last two and a half years. This is part of HP engagement with the community on the World Literacy Day.

As part of this event where about 3,00,000 people reside in the rural environs, there were a host of activity related to computer literacy and awareness.

These included the quiz, essay writing and many more brain boggling and fun activities. About 270 schools participated in Kuppam.

The Director, Emerging Market Solutions (EMS), HP, Mr Anand Tawker, in a statement said HP has provided ICT enabled education programmes, developed and deployed in association with organisations like Azim Premji Foundation, America India Foundation and World Links among others, which helps create awareness and interest in computer education for students in rural environments.

Kuppam has been projected as a test bed for technology-based socio-economic development. The area has been a pilot site for educational, agricultural, health care and telecommunications projects.

The latest initiative is a three-year alliance between Hewlett-Packard and Andhra Pradesh to build an HP i-Community in Kuppam.
