Back Rs 11-cr plan for mental hospital in Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, has said that the Mental Health Centre at Peroorkada here will be elevated to the status of a Centre of Excellence.

A Rs 11-crore plan has been prepared for the development of the centre, Mr Chandy said during a visit to the centre. Procedures for obtainingthe Rs 3-crore grant for the centre would be expedited and would also be exhausted fully on a priority basis.

The Chief Minister also promised to initiate necessary steps to commence a course in psychiatric nursing and setting up of a rehabilitation society as part of the centre. Vacancies will be filled on a priority basis, he added.
