Electronic media urged to improve content

HYDERABAD, DEC.12. The need for the electronic media to disseminate information that would lead to improved productivity and wealth creation was stressed by J. Satyanarayana, CEO, National Institute of Smart Government here on Sunday.

Inaugurating a day-long exhibition-cum-seminar on "Satellite Broadcasting", he said that there was a drought of content in terms of quality and relevance.

Though there was a multiplicity of channels the content was not enough.

As a result, the same was repeated ad nauseam or that which was not useful was broadcast.

Satellite technology

Stating that satellite technology had become all pervasive and powerful, he said that the disseminated information, which was the basis for knowledge, should be relevant to the population at large.

It should help in empowering farmers, creating self-employment and improving health and education sectors, besides enhancing the efficiency of the Government.

N.S. Ganesan, President, Broadcast Engineering Society (India) and Chief Engineer, Doordarshan, in his key-note address, said that satellite broadcasting had given a fillip to television and had "stupendous" effect on various fields including agriculture. " Satellite is ruling the world today," he added.

Yogeswhar Pratap, Chairman, BES(I), Hyderabad chapter, welcomed and V. Rama Rao, CEO, SAPNET, MANA TV, proposed a vote of thanks.
