Back Bio-informatics institute ties up with Sun Micro

THE Institute of Bio-informatics, Bangalore, a non-profit organisation engaged in research in genomics, proteomics and bio-informatics, has announced a technical collaboration with Sun Microsystems to strengthen its activity for providing reliable Human Protein Reference Database (HPRD) for researchers.

The institute has recently developed HRPD, a comprehensive catalogue of all human proteins.

The database helps systematic analysis of complex system in a new and emerging discipline called Systems Biology - a study of the relationship between DNA, RNA, and protein and related science.

Under the collaboration, Sun Microsystem will provide the institute with a Computing Grid Cluster under its Academic Excellence Grant.

The Institute of Bioinformatics, which has been set up by Dr Akhilesh Pandey, a reputed scientist in the field of bioinformatics, genomics and proteomics.

From a modest beginning with a staff of 12, the institute has strengthened its resource pool to 70 to fulfil its mission to become a world-class institute and a centre for excellence in research and technology in genomics and bioinformatics.

The Institute was set up with the assistance of the National Institute of Health, US, and funded by the US Government agency, National Centre for Bio Technology Foundation, USA.
