Sprint, Nextel to merge

NEW YORK, DEC. 15. Sprint Corp. and Nextel Communications Inc. have agreed today to merge in a deal that would create the U.S.'s third largest wireless telephone provider.

The deal would create a company that would be known as Sprint Nextel that would have about $40 billion (euro30 billion) in revenue and serve more than 35 million wireless subscribers.
