Magistrate orders release of boy

THRISSUR, DEC. 16. An eight-year old boy from Madhya Pradesh was produced by the police before the Judicial First Class Magistrate here as an accused in a case of bouncing of cheque.

The boy from Pathakera in Bethur district, Madhya Pradesh, is studying in fourth standard. His father, Sudhir Chakraborty, had borrowed Rs. 35,000 in 2001 from Vijayan, now staying at North Paraur. Mr. Vijayan and Mr. Chakraborty were engaged in the business of tyre re-treading machines.

Mr. Chakraborthy had given four cheques to Mr. Vijayan signed by his son on behalf of `Subojit Industries,'which was being run by him. As the cheques bounced, Mr. Vijayan filed a case before the magistrate here and a warrant was issued.

The warrant was handed over to the Madhya Pradesh police by Mr. Vijayan. The Madhya Pradesh police arrested the boy under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and produced him before the Magistrate.

The Magistrate, S. Jayakumar, ordered the immediate release of the boy and directed the Madhya Pradesh police to hand him over to his parents. The Madhya Pradesh Director-General of Police has been directed to seek an explanation from the officials who arrested the boy and submit it before the Magistrate before January 22.
