Anoop, Renjith set new records

VIJAYAWADA, DEC. 19 . P.K. Anoop in the under-16 boys 100m and M. Renjith in the junior men's triple jump, established two records in the ONGC-junior National athletics championships at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium here on Sunday.

Anoop, a product of the SAI Centre, Thrissur, Kerala, is coached by M.A. George and has a personal best of 11 seconds flat, set in the State amateur championships at Palakkad this month in the qualifying meet for this championship. He incidentally holds the State long jump record too.

As skipper of the Kerala contingent here, Renjith led from the front. His personal best is 16.14m, recorded at the Kerala University athletics meet, earlier this month. His display would have been better, if not for an ankle injury at the Kerala University meet. Renjith trains at SAI, Kollam and is coached by Udaya Kumar.

Meanwhile, four athletes have been suspended for two years and a dozen for six months, when they were found to be overaged during a physical examination conducted by the Athletics Federation of India.
