Government nod for stadium construction

ALAPPUZHA, DEC. 19. The dreams of the residents will soon become a reality with the State Government giving the nod for the construction of a stadium.

The Alappuzha Stadium Management Committee, which met here yesterday, decided to begin the construction works of the stadium at Bhattathirippurayidom in January, next year.

The meeting presided over by the Minister for Tourism K.C. Venugopal decided to complete the construction in six months.

According to an official release on the decisions of the committee, the project report on the stadium would be finalised by the end of the month. Sixty-three cents of land adjoining Bhattathiripurayidom will be acquired for the purpose. The construction will be completed in two phases.

The construction of a 400-metre synthetic track will be done during the first phase of the project. The construction of the gallery will begin in the second phase.
