Theft in MP's house: one arrested

NEW DELHI, DEC. 20. An unemployed young man who had been living in the house of a parliamentarian at South Avenue here has been arrested on the charge of stealing the mobile phone of a Rajya Sabha member from his official accommodation and attempting burglary at three more houses of MPs in the locality.

The accused, Vijay Kumar Mohanto, lived in Flat No. 180 of South Avenue allotted to an MP from Orissa. During interrogation, he disclosed that he was also from Orissa and had been living there for the past several months. The police have secured his two-day remand for interrogation and recovery of the mobile phone he had allegedly stolen from the Rajya Sabha MP, E.M.S. Natchiappan's house.

The Lok Sabha Speaker, Somnath Chatterjee, today summoned the Police Commissioner, K.K. Paul, to get a report on the progress in the investigation, after the issue was raised in the House.
