Thiruvananthapuram , Dec. 21

THE Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (Gopio) will confer its `Special Recognition' Award on the Tata Consultancy Services head honcho, Mr S. Ramadorai, during the Gopio Conference 2005 in January.

The Gopio conference will coincide with the Third Pravasi Bharatiya Divas to be held in Mumbai from January 7-9, said Dr Thomas Abraham, International Chairman.

Mr Ramadorai is among the distinguished Indians to be feted by the Gopio for having provided commendable services for expansion and consolidation of the non-resident/ persons of Indian origin (PIO) community.

By placing Indian computer professionals to all parts of the world, TCS had contributed a great deal in furtherance of this cause.

Mr Ramadorai started his career in 1972 as a junior engineer in the organisation that he has been heading since 1996. Under his stewardship, TCS has grown to be the country's first billion-dollar software company.

Leadership qualities had earlier won Mr Ramadorai the Asia Business Leader Award in 2002. During a span of 30 years, Mr Ramadorai has managed and continues to inspire and motivate tens of thousands of employees spread out in at least 32 countries. "Gopio recognises Mr Ramadorai and TCS for their contribution in expanding and consolidating the Indian diaspora," Dr Abraham said.

Pravasi Divas: The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, will inaugurate the Third Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, which will see high-level participation from the Central and State Governments and from the political and business class.
