Earth Care promotes an alternate lifestyle

EARTH CARE on Keston Road is a novel concept in Thiruvananthapuram. More than just a concept, the founders of Earth Care, hope to promote an alternate lifestyle, with alternate choices. Earth Care is "a place for environment related books, ideas, arts, crafts, organic products, exchanges... " according to the promoters.

Unique endeavour

It is an effort by a group of like-minded people to make a qualitative difference to people's lives. It is, according to Sainu who is closely involved in it's functioning, "an attempt at creating awareness about the environment." The promoters are working out strategies, marketing organic produce or handicrafts produced by farmers and craftspeople based on the feedback that it generates.

Gauging the response

Although the store does not yet stock organic produce, it plans to stock organic produce (pesticide-free) such as rice, and vegetables. The handicrafts on display include jute bags, toys and costume jewellery made of wood, murals on bamboo, and even bamboo "pappadum kuthis."
