Back Kochi to host World Mayors' meet next month

THE All India Institute of Local Self Government, Cochin Corporation and Kerala Institute of Local Administration are jointly organising the World Mayors' Conference 2005 in Kochi between January 21 and 23.

The Government of India, Government of Kerala, the United Nations Development Programme and Urban Management Programme are also associated with the event.

This will be the second such conference after the first one held in Jaipur in January 1998, which had the theme, `New role of Mayors in a changing global scenario'. The theme of the current conference is `Millennium development goals and the role of cities', a press release here said.

In addition to the 60 Mayors from overseas and 80 from the country, Government officials, experts on urban governance from India and abroad would participate in the deliberations.
