London: Children as young as eight living near Gleneagles, the Scottish resort that will host next year's G-8 summit, are to be issued with ID cards as part of a massive security operation, it emerged on Tuesday. It is thought that 500 residents of Auchterarder in Perthshire will be asked to carry a special form of photographic identification to get past checkpoints and roadblocks. The officer in charge of the police operation said such measures were simply standard procedure for a gathering of leaders from the world's most powerful countries, but the local member of the Scottish Parliament said the restrictions were outrageous.
