Can seawater taste sweet? Yes, say the fishermen who survived the deadly tsunami. The family of Gollamothu Gopal was working on his two-acre salt farm at Ullapalem near Singarayakonda in Prakasam district when the tsunami hit the coast. While two of his daughters died, his wife and another daughter survived. To escape from the tides, he swam underwater. Gopal, who swallowed lot of water, said the seawater seemed to have lost its hardness. It had changed both its colour and taste, he said. It looked as black as charred rice and tasted more sweet than salty, he observed. Other fishermen, who too had a narrow escape, made a similar observation.
