Back TNEB to set up new gas-based project Our Bureau
Chennai , Jan. 7 THE Tamil Nadu Electricity Board plans to set up another 95 MW gas-based power project at Valuthur in Ramanathapuram district. The board has invited bids to set up plant on a turnkey basis. The board has a 95 MW gas-based plant at Valuthur and the new plant is proposed to be established as a second phase of the existing plant. The bids will be opened on February 21, according to an advertisement issued by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB). TNEB has four gas-based projects in operation with a total capacity of 424 MW. The second phase of the Valuthur project will take 18 months to be commissioned from the date the tender is awarded. According to information on TNEB's Web site, the board expects to commission a total of 346 MW in 2004-05. This includes two private projects - Arkay Energy Pvt Ltd (53 MW) and Aban Power Co Ltd (113 MW) - and two hydel projects of the board - PUSHEP (150 MW) and Bhavani Kattalai barrage (30 MW).
