Back `Spams form 60 pc of e-mail messages'

SPAM volume has swelled to comprise 60 per cent of all e-mail messages in 2004. This is marginally higher when compared to the volumes in 2003.

Spam statistics from Symantec reveal that the volumes had gradually shot up in the last 12 months from 60 per cent in January 2004 to 67 per cent in December 2004. It has hovered above the 60 per cent mark throughout 2004.

Of the total number of spam mails registered by Symantec, product-related spam topped all categories at over 20 per cent followed by financial-related spam, which ranged between 16 and 18 per cent.

The other categories of spam mail include adult or porno mails (12 per cent) and health (12 per cent).
