Two dead, six taken ill after consuming liquor

GUNTUR, JAN. 13. Two persons died and six others were taken ill after they consumed locally distilled liquor at Gajapuram thanda in Durgi mandal of Guntur district on Wednesday night.

The police personnel at Macherla said on Thursday that the victims were identified as Banawath Konda Naik, 35, and Nabattula Chinajallaiah, 65, from Boya community, both residents of the same thanda. Eight of the villagers had bought illicitly distilled liquor from the nearby forests last evening and drank together.

After a couple of hours when two of them swooned and others developed symptoms of nausea, they were rushed to the nearby hospital in Durgi, where two of them were declared dead. The villagers brought back the bodies to the Gajapuram Thanda along with those who were ill and informed the police on Thursday morning.

Out of danger

Four of them were shifted to the Government General Hospital here, while two were being treated in the Macherla Government Hospital. The condition of all of them was said to be out of danger.

Unconfirmed reports said that four persons died though the police maintained that there were only two victims.
