Romesh sets record in long jump

PUNE, JAN. 13. Romesh of Kerala created a new meet record in the boys under-14 long jump event in 50th National School Games here today.

Romesh bettered the previous record of Ramesh Kumar of Haryana (6.47m) created in 2000 with a jump of 6.52m.

Kerala is leading the medals tally, having bagged 23 gold, 14 silver and 8 bronze medals.

The results: Boys: Under-19: Pole vault: 1. Deep Chandra (UP) 4.30m, 2. Rajesh Joseph (Ker). Under-14: High jump: 1. Milan Ali (WB) 1.83m (NMR), 2. Prosijit Gharami (WB), 3. Jayesh T (Ker). Long jump: 1. Romesh U.N. (Ker) 6.52m (NMR).

Girls: Under-19: 5km walk: 1. Sandhya V.S. (Ker) 26:23:00 minutes, 2. Simi Shivdass (Ker). 3,000m: 1. Jijimol Jacob (Ker) 10:02:32m. U-17: 3km walk: 1. Blessy M.B. (Ker) 15:35:09m.
