Jenil to meet Soumyajit

CHENNAI, JAN. 20. Unseeded Jenil Shah of Gujarat survived two match points to defeat Mohit Verma of (PSPBA) 5-11, 11-6, 19-17, 11-6, 6-11, 6-11, 13-11 in the sub-junior boys' semifinals of the National sub-junior table tennis championship at the Nehru Indoor Stadium here on Thursday.

Shah was cruising along at three games to one before the left-handed Verma played hard, by going for the kill, to equalise.

In the decider, Verma had two match points at 10-8 but Shah held his nerves to close out the contest on his second match point.

Sub-junior boys: Singles (semifinals): Jenil Shah (Guj) bt Mohit Verma (PSPBA) 5-11, 11-6, 19-17, 11-6, 6-11, 6-11, 13-11; Soumyajit Ghosh (CoE) bt Souvik Kar (CoE) 11-8, 13-11, 11-9, 11-8. Doubles (final): G. Sathiyan & E. Prabhakaran (TN) bt Souvik Kar & Arkabrata Kundu (CoE) 9-11, 11-4, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9.

Cadet boys: Sanmay Paranjpe (Mah `A') bt Sushmit Sriram (TN) 10-12, 11-5, 11-1, 11-1, 10-12, 11-3; Saurav Saha (PSPBA) bt G. Sathiyan (TN) 7-11, 11-9, 12-10, 6-11, 11-6, 12-10.

Sub-junior girls: Singles (semifinals): Jayita Pushilal (CoE) bt Rituja Das (CoE) 11-8, 11-4, 11-2, 11-8; Shreya Ghosh (CoE) bt Kakoli Lahkar (Asm) 11-2, 11-8, 11-8, 11-6. Doubles (final): K.K. Narmada & K. Ishwarya (TN) bt M. Monalisa & D. Kabita (Ben) 7-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-1.
