Diploma course in yoga education soon

CHENNAI, JAN. 25. A post-graduate diploma course in yoga education will be launched in the coming academic year, S.P. Thyagarajan, Vice-Chancellor, Madras University, said today.

Participating in the inaugural ceremony of the Manuscripts Resource Centre and Patanjali Yoga Kendra at the university, he lauded the inter-disciplinary efforts of the Department of Tamil Literature and Department of Sanskrit. The project of digitising manuscripts was a collaborative effort, involving other agencies and the university, under the aid of the National Mission for Manuscripts, he said. Besides digitalising manuscripts on Siddha medicine, the centre would collect and catalogue other manuscripts.

Sudha Gopalakrishnan, director, National Mission for Manuscripts, Department of Culture, Government of India, inaugurated the Manuscripts Resource Centre. The Patanjali Yoga Kendra was inaugurated by Sathyaatma Thirtha Swami, pontiff, Jagadguru Shri Madhvacharya Mula Maha Samsthanam, Uttaradi Mutt in Karnataka.

Soundarapandian, curator, Government Manuscripts Library, Chennai, suggested that a branch of the New Delhi-based National Mission for Manuscripts be opened in Tamil Nadu to facilitate research work here.
