Back Concor offers telescopic rate for bonded trucking service — Tariff to go down with increase in cargo volume

CONTAINER Corporation of India Ltd (Concor), which has introduced bonded trucking service for air-cargo in its basket of logistics products for shippers and transporters of Coimbatore, has come out with a telescopic tariff structure for cargoes booked by bonded trucking.

The structured tariff for bonded trucking from Coimbatore to the three destination airports of Chennai, Kochi and Kozhikode is governed by the `minimum chargeable' volume (weight) basis and the freight payable will be weight-slab dependent, dovetailing it with the concept, higher the cargo volume lower the rate.

The minimum acceptable weight slab of cargo to be trucked to Chennai or Kochi from Coimbatore is 1,000 kg for which the freight will be Rs 6,200 and the per tonne freight charge will go down in proportion to the increase of the weight of the cargo booked. Thus for the maximum weight slab of 6,000 kg and above, the freight will come down to Rs 2,700 per tonne, according to Concor sources.

In the case of the tariff for the bonded trucking from Coimbatore to Kozhikode, the minimum chargeable weight slab fixed by the Concor is 2,000 kg and the tariff for this volume is Rs 5,000. Here again at the maximum weight slab of cargo at 9,000 kg and above, the corresponding freight per tonne to be collected will be Rs 1,770.

The sources said that the contract for transporting the cargoes booked under the Concor's bonded trucking service has been given to Kerala Roadways .

Earlier participating at the launch of the bonded trucking held on the premises of the Coimbatore Air Cargo Complex at Peelamedu airport, Mr Sanjeeb Halder, Chief General Manager (Southern Railway), Concor, Chennai said that Concor was already operating bonded trucking from Chennai and Bangalore and was doing an average 75 TEUs (twenty equivalent units) of air cargo and another 200 TEUS of sea cargo every week .

The entry of Concor in the bonded trucking service in Coimbatore would further facilitate the quality of supply chain management for the shippers and manufacturing sector in export/import trade, he felt.

In addition to Chennai, Kochi and Kozhikode, Concor's bonded trucking of air cargo (for exports) will be available for Tiruchi and Bangalore too and right now two foreign airlines, Qatar Airways and Sri Lankan Airlines, had designated Concor to run the bonded trucking on their behalf from Coimbatore.
