HYDERABAD, JAN. 27. Sania Mirza, who is carrying a knee injury, is still unsure about whether she will be able to play in the WTA Hyderabad Open to be held from February 7. "I underwent some medical examinations in Mumbai on my return from the Australian Open and even met former Indian cricket team physio, Andrew Leipus. They say I can play without any problem, but since there is some pain because of a swelling on the bone, I will have to wait for another week before getting cleared," the 18-year-old Sania told newsmen on her arrival here after her third-round appearance in the Australian Open. "Definitely, I am keen to play in the Hyderabad Open and make use of the wonderful opportunity of playing with some of the big names in WTA circuit. But whether I will be completely fit or not for the event will be clear after a few days of rest and another medical test," Sania explained. She said her Italy-based coach Bob Brett had not given her any specific advice on participation. Recalling her experience in the Australian Open, a visibly delighted Sania said she felt her forehand was much better and stronger than ever before. "Even Serena (Williams) acknowledged that in her post-match comments," the Hyderabad girl said. "It is a dream come true to play in a Grand Slam." When asked about her plans for this year, she said "we are planning to take part in atleast 30 tournaments before the French Open. The first objective is to break into the top 100 to get a direct entry for the French Open and then aim for top 50 by this year-end. But this is subject to fitness and other factors." Any thoughts of hiring a travelling coach? "I am not sure whether it is essential right now or not. May be, it has it's own pluses. So we will give a it serious thought and decide later," Sania said. She young champion tennis star also took the opportunity to thank Mr. G.V.Krishna Reddy, chairman of GVK Group of Industries, for sponsoring her since she was 13 years of age.
