Upset win for Vigneswaran

MADURAI, JAN.27. Unseeded Vigneswaran of Tamil Nadu provided an upset in the boys U-14 singles by defeating third seed Alla Sirkar of Andhra Pradesh in the AITA and TNTA ranking tennis tournament at Madurai Union Club courts here on Thursday.

Alla Srikar, who was seeded second in boys U-12 singles also made his exit losing to fifth seed Ram Kumar of Tamil Nadu 4-9 in the semifinals. Ravi Kumar will meet top seed Mohith Mayur in the final by defeating fourth seed Vigneswaran 9-4 in the other semifinal. Sukanya Ramakrishnan of Tamil Nadu, who created a stir in the girls U-14 singles second round by toppling the top seed V.Nayanatara of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday could not go further as she was beaten by unseeded C. Rajeswari of Tamil Nadu 6-0, 7-6(5) in the quarterfinals.
