NEW DELHI, JAN. 27. Several parts of the Capital, particularly East, Outer and South Delhi, today experienced erratic electricity supply and long unscheduled power cuts. Apart from a load-shedding of around 250 MW during the day, disrupted power supply to a couple of water treatment plants and boosting stations affected water supply in many areas. The power problem was aggravated due to the shutting down of two units of 40 MW and 42 MW at the Indraprastha power plant while a 30 MW unit of gas turbine station also remained non-functional. The peak power demand on Thursday stood at 2,990 MW. According to reports, power supply to at least two water treatment plants -- Bhagirathi water treatment plant in East Delhi and Nangloi water treatment plant in West Delhi -- remained badly affected, virtually paralysing water supply to many parts of the Capital. The major areas that remained badly hit due to power shortage included Ghonda, Nangloi, Nandnagri, Jafarpur, Najafgarh, Shahdara, Bijwasan, Karawal Nagar, Palam, Mahipalpur, Uttam Nagar, Jehangirpuri, Shalimar Bagh, Alipur, Narela, Sagarpur, Kalkaji, Okhla, Jagatpuri, Seelampur, Kalyanpuri, Maujpur, Dilshad Garden, Kingsway Camp and Nehru Vihar.
